October 3 was a wonderful day for Schaakhuis En Passant. The fine weather allowed us to move the tables and chairs to the Noordeinde for the weekly outdoor chess session. The twelve tables were quickly occupied by tourists, shoppers and passers‑by, making it a lively venue for our game.
On Saturday a KNSB round was on the programme. Classes 5 to 7 played their round, while the higher classes contested the second round. Our flagship team secured an impressive victory against DSC 4 from Delft and now shares the lead in class 4F with Erasmus 1 and Paul Keres 5, with four match points.
The second team travelled to Barendrecht to face Combi “the Islands” Zuid‑Holland 1. Despite a heavy 7‑1 defeat, the effort was commendable.
In the evening the Weekly Blitz took place. Thirteen players competed for first place, which was ultimately shared by Andrey (member of the Icelandic Chess Federation) and Tomek (Poland). Andrey won their head‑to‑head game and claimed the tournament win; Tomek finished second, Eric took bronze, Gerard placed fourth and Raymond fifth.
